Resident Evil rumours are very much a thing nowadays but it seems that fans of the iconic Capcom survival horror series will once more be taken to where it all began.

When Capcom released the Resident Evil 2 remake in 2019, it not only pleased veteran fans of the series who were desperate to see the classic from 1998 rebuilt from the ground up on Capcom’s RE Engine, but it also welcomed in a new legion of fans to the world of survival horror.

Check out the Resident Evil remake trailer below!

However, long before we were treated to the Resident Evil 2 remake in 2019, there was another in 2002 for the Nintendo GameCube, none other than the OG Resident Evil. Being an obsessed and lifelong fan of the series, the Resident Evil remake for the Nintendo GameCube is the prime example of how a remake should be done.

For starters, the game inspired by the 1996 title, it looked gorgeous and if you play the HD remaster today, it still holds up. What’s more, it introduced new locations, subplots, puzzles, scary creatures such as the crimson head zombie and much more.

Over the years, other than perhaps the OG Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4, there are not many games that I’ve put in more hours than the original remake. Honestly, I can still fire up the 2002 remake and it still feels like I’m experiencing a relatively new game, it’s that damn good.

That being said, it has been 22 years since the Resident Evil remake was released for the Nintendo GameCube, so if the recent rumours are true that it's going to be remade again, I think this will once more be a welcomed addition to new and returning fans alike.

As shared in a Reddit post, according to a known leaker of video game information, DanielRPK (via Patreon) and Twitter user PRE_Alarabiya, the original Resident Evil will be getting its second full remake to be released in 2026. This follows previous rumours that Capcom is set to announce another new Resident Evil game this year that will allegedly be released in 2025.

The last few years have certainly been an exciting time for fans of the Resident Evil series and it seems that it’s only going to get better. Yet, as much as I’d love to see another modern remake of the OG game, I think it’s long overdue that we get remakes of not only Resident Evil Code: Veronica but the cult classic Resident Evil Outbreak.

The most recent game in the series to be released is the brilliant Resident Evil 4 remake out now on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
