Resident Evil fans lose it over remakes we've been waiting for

My body is ready

Resident Evil fans hopeful for a new set of remakes to dig their teeth into may have just heard the answer to their prayers.

The last Resident Evil remake we got was 2023’s Resident Evil 4, a remake of the 2005 game of the same name.

Considering the positive reception to that game, as well as how adored the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 were, it’s leaving some fans hopeful that the rest of the series could follow.

While Capcom hasn’t announced anything official yet, and likely won’t while it’s busy prepping Resident Evil Requiem for release in January, reports of new remakes have cropped up over the years.

Game developer and known Resident Evil insider AestheticGamer, or DuskGolem, has said that Resident Evil: Code Veronica and Resident Evil Zero are the next games to be getting the remake treatment.

“The next mainline remakes coming should be Resident Evil Zero & Code Veronica,” they wrote after being asked about a potential remake of the first Resident Evil.

“I do think a RE1 RE-Remake will happen eventually, just it's not what's coming in the next few years, & as far as I know not currently in dev.”

Remember to take all this with a grain of salt, especially since Capcom has not publicly confirmed anything yet.

Resident Evil fans are obviously very excited about this, considering how popular those games are. They also have huge lore implications within the wider series canon, so new remakes could help to close out any narrative holes.

“For the love of God, PLEASE let this be happening,” wrote one user on X (formerly Twitter).

“Code Veronica please please please,” wrote another.

In particular, Code Veronica is the Resident Evil game in most in need of a remake. The original game, while it can be fun, is also pretty flawed.

For example, the second half of the game is notably worse than the first half, where it doesn’t communicate basic information to you while housing some pretty awkward boss fights. It’s even possible for you to soft-lock yourself if you make a few wrong decisions.

We'll wait for official word from Capcom on whether these games are to receive the remake treatment.
