Resident Evil Requiem’s free DLC could drop as early as next week, a new report claims.
Resident Evil Requiem was revealed to be getting some free DLC earlier this year, with a photo mode dropping in late March and a “bonus mini game” coming in May.
Although exact details regarding this mini game are pretty light, many fans have predicted that it would be Mercenaries Mode, a popular bonus game mode that has been a series mainstay since Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.
In an interview with Den-fami Nico Gamer, game director Koshi Nakanishi and producer Masato Kumazawa discussed the upcoming mini game, and may have given us a huge hint about when the DLC will drop.

“This mini-game is a content that is released by clearing the main story,” Kumazawa says in the interview (translated). “So, if there are people who can play from now on, I think that if you can clear it during Golden Week, you will be able to play just well.”
Golden Week is a holiday period in Japan which lasts for a week, between 29 April to 5 May which consists of four public holidays: Showa Day, Constitution Memorial Day, Greenery Day, and Children's Day.
Essentially, he’s saying that the mini game will be unlocked by completing the main story, and if you’re able to do that during Golden Week, you’ll be ready for the DLC. It hints at the DLC’s release possibly being next week.

Nakanishi confirmed that the mini game will be single-player, adding that “However, I cleared the main story and said, ‘I'm not going to be violent yet!’ And I thought, ‘Wow!’ I think that you can enjoy it as it becomes, so if you can sharpen the Tomahawk and wait.”
This does point to the game mode being Mercenaries Mode, however with Nakanishi also being the previous game director for Resident Evil 7: biohazard and Resident Evil: Revelations, he also has an affinity for fun, unique game modes.
Therefore, it might not necessarily be Mercenaries, but something else entirely which is just as fun.
Instead of having just one bonus game mode, Resident Evil 7 had several mini games via the “Banned Footage” DLC, with a bunch of different narratives and special modes to survive in.
Resident Evil Requiem released back in February, and quickly set a record for the best-performing game in the series. It sold twice as many copies as 2023’s Resident Evil 4 remake, selling five million in five days and 7 million by the end of April.
In the UK, 54% of sales were on PlayStation 5, 36% on PC, 6% on Xbox Series X/S, and 4% on Nintendo Switch 2.
In addition to the free DLC launching next month, a paid story expansion is also in development and expected to launch in the future.
