Red Dead Redemption Netflix Port Divides Fans, 60fps Arthur Morgan Demanded

So close, yet so far

It seems certain Rockstar Games fans aren’t too pleased with their recent announcement that Red Dead Redemption is coming to current-gen systems (and even Netflix), because some seem to think that they’re focusing on the wrong entry in the franchise.

Quick recap if you missed it: the original Red Dead Redemption is getting a current-gen port for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X.

The enhanced version of the game will be a "smooth 60 frames per second experience", with resolutions up to 4K and HDR support (if you're on PS5 and Xbox Series). It's also landing on IOS, Android and, perhaps most surprisingly, Netflix.

Great news, right? Well, it depends on who you ask. I’d say that the reaction to the news has mostly been positive, but some die-hard Rockstar Games fans have still come away disappointed.

Why? Based on the comments over on the r/reddeadredemption subreddit, that’s because fans were sort of hoping that Rockstar Games had been focusing on a 60fps upgrade for Red Dead Redemption II instead.

“I bought a PC specifically to play RDR2 and obviously branched out to other OP titles. The PS5 still runs a PS4 version which is in par with a Switch 2”, commented user Terry_the_accountant.

“For those who say you don’t need a PS5/PS5 pro upgrade. The PS5 is running a Switch 2 equivalent which is a 12-13 years old hardware.”

“This uhh, sucks. Sure this confirms that the “next gen” version of RDR1 is coming to series x, but that’s kinda not what we wanted. I just wanted an enhancement for RDR2 on ps5 and series x. (Proper 60fps, I know it’s running at 4k on series x but I just wanted 60fps badly)”, replied user Rdup222.

“I hate the fact that GTA V got the treatment but rockstar seems to be running alll away from rdr2 in favor of the original.”

“All these updates & releases just point to RDR2 getting a ‘next gen’ release with 60fps and upgraded resolution/texture”, commented user Im1337.

“Hopefully that also means some clothes/weapons from online being available in single player.”

I do kind of understand why some folks are upset, but it’s important to remember that Rockstar Games hasn’t teased that they’re planning to release a remastered version of Red Dead Redemption II in any way.

Most of the hype surrounding the rumoured current-gen upgrade for Red Dead Redemption II has stemmed from leakers, so, for once, I don’t think we can blame Rockstar Games for this one.

Don’t get me wrong, I want to play it in 60 FPS on a modern console too. I just think we’ll have to wait a little while longer before Rockstar Games is ready to show something off.
