The Red Dead Redemption games play out so similarly to Western films and television shows that it's a wonder there hasn't been more discussion around the idea of a potential direct adaptation.
The second one in particular is a cinematic masterpiece, an epic tale that opens and closes the stories of many characters in a way that very few games have ever been able to match, particularly in emotional impact.
That game has reached such a broad audience that actors have started to weigh in to say how much they would like to see an adaptation and how much they would like to be in it.
Now, a new actor has stepped forward to express his interest in taking on the role of legendary protagonist Arthur Morgan, and it does make some sense when you start to think about it.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan Wants to Play Arthur Morgan in Red Dead Redemption 2 Adaptation
Whilst speaking at a fan convention, Walking Dead actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan was asked whether he'd like to see an adaptation of Red Dead Redemption, and it's safe to say that he was very enthusiastic about the prospect.
"That's the one I want to do... not even a question. My favourite genre is western. There’s not even a close second. My son plays that game, and it's freaking awesome," he said.
He went on to say that he would take on the role of Arthur Morgan "in a heartbeat," though this remains proverbial pie in the sky without any rumours of a potential adaptation being discussed right now.
For some reason, Rockstar Games never really seem to attract much in the way of adaptations into other media, despite their near-unparalleled popularity and appeal to a broad base of consumers.
The last time we even had anything approaching a rumour was all the way back in 2015, when Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe was supposedly in discussions to star in a GTA movie that never materialised.
At the risk of putting my head above the parapet here, Jeffrey Dean Morgan is a great actor, but it really feels like he's infinitely well suited to playing Dutch, rather than Arthur Morgan himself.
That could just be his excellent turns as bad guys in the past, but there's a visual resemblance and if I had it my way then that's what I'd like to see Morgan do (I don't have my way).
