Red Dead Redemption players are just finding out that there’s a ridiculously silly way to win (almost) any duel in the game, but you'd better hope you have good aim if you want to try pulling this trick off for yourself.
I think enough time has passed now that it’s fair to say that Red Dead Redemption II is an improvement over the original Red Dead Redemption in almost every way.
Ok, well, maybe only if you ignore the fact that Undead Nightmare exists. Yes, before you ask, I’m still salty that Rockstar Games never released a single-player Undead Nightmare-style DLC for Red Dead Redemption II.
Anyway, one way in which Red Dead Redemption might have the leg up over Red Dead Redemption II is with the duelling system.

To clarify, duelling mostly works the same in both games, but there’s just so much less opportunity to challenge a dude to a duel in Red Dead Redemption II. Plus, I kinda prefer the visual presentation of it in Red Dead Redemption, but that’s a personal thing.
Speaking of duelling, fans are only just discovering that you can win duels in the original game by crushing your opponent’s spirit (instead of one of their arteries).
As spotted by user Soulsgamer247 over on the r/reddeadredemption subreddit, it’s possible (with good aim) to actually shoot your opponent’s head off during a duel… at which point they will promptly give up.

Turns out, this was news to dozens of commenters in the thread too.
“What the hell I’ve been playing this game since 2011 I knew you could shoot the arm or hand to end the duel with 100 honor. I never knew you could end the duel by shooting the hat,” commented user Zealousideal_Panic_8.
“This subreddit was why I made a Reddit account however many years ago, and to still learn something new about rdr1 after all this time is so cool… Great post!” replied user RazkaTaz.
“Been playing this game since I was a child and only now i find this out?” commented user demUlitionist64.
To be honest with you, I did know about this one. It’s a pretty funny way to win a duel, sure, but it pales in comparison to the best way to win one: using deadeye shooting your opponent in the nuts 28 times.
You hear that, Edgar Ross? Every playthrough, I’m always aiming in the same spot, you monster.
