Grand Theft Auto VI is very much the focus of Rockstar Games’ attention.
It’s for that reason that we don’t know what the future holds for the Red Dead franchise.
Certainly, there are many of us hoping that Red Dead Redemption 3 will eventually be announced, although there are some questions regarding what that might look like.
Red Dead Redemption 2 reaches 1907 by the game’s end and eventually, the Wild West stops being, well, wild.
Advert
Let’s be honest, there’s little else to Arthur and John Morgan’s tales. Perhaps it’s time the franchise introduced us to new characters.
It’s likely going to be quite some time though before Rockstar’s plans are unveiled to us.
The studio could opt to go straight into GTA VII or create a new IP.
While we endure this arduous wait, I have a substitute game that may just help scratch the yeehaw itch.
Frontier Legends Launches in Early Access on PC This Spring
Frontier Legends is an upcoming “open-world frontier adventure” from Neojac Entertainment.
“Crafting and exploration shape your story,” the synopsis teases.
“Stake your claim, build your place in the West and uncover what lies beyond the rails.”

The game is set to launch in early access on PC this spring, although a precise release date is yet to be announced.
Players will engage in a number of activities that should feel familiar to those of you who have rolled credits on Red Dead Redemption or Red Dead Redemption 2.
You’ll need to defend yourself from bandits and outlaws, manage your reputation, and establish a settlement.
Frontier Legends adds more survival mechanics into play than Red Dead.
In order for your settlement to thrive, players will have to gather NPCs to assign daily tasks to.
Farming, crafting, and gathering are all of utmost importance, as is making sure your settlement is well defended.
Frontier Legends features changing weather conditions and a dynamic day and night cycle, plus you’ll, of course, be able to choose your own horse.
It’s up to you to decide what kind of person you’ll be. Hunter, trader, builder, lawman, bandit … There are so many roles for the taking.
“Push beyond your settlement to explore the unknown and uncover the hidden secrets of the frontier,” devs add.
“Take on quests, solve puzzles and hunt legendary treasures as you explore ancient ruins and forgotten camps. Every discovery can change your fate and get you closer to becoming a legend yourself.”
I should also stress that Frontier Legends can be enjoyed alone or with friends via co-op multiplayer.
You should keep in mind that Frontier Legends hasn’t been made with the same budget as Red Dead Redemption 2, but I’m impressed by what I’ve seen.
The game is participating in Steam Horse Fest which runs from 19 to 23 February, so it’s now available to wishlist.
Want to try it out yourself ahead of launch? A free demo is set to arrive in March.
