A brand new upcoming RPG combines the best of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and No Man’s Sky, and a free demo is available now.

Guardians of the Wild Sky is an upcoming game combining the flight-based movement of a game like No Man’s Sky with the open-world ‘RPGness’ of Skyrim.

In it, you explore a vast open world where you capture and bond with powerful Guardians, and build different kinds of settlements.

“Fall into the world of Wild Sky, a survival-crafting adventure where magical creatures called Guardians are your greatest allies,” reads the blurb on Guardians of the Wild Sky. “Sail through the skies on your trusty airship and explore a massive world; discover unique floating biomes teeming with life, hidden treasures, and dangerous beasts to conquer.”

Guardians Of The Wild Sky Has A New Demo Available Now

The PC demo for Guardians of the Wild Sky already includes a huge chunk of the game. While the full game’s map is around 800 square kilometres, the demo opens up a “curated portion” of the world.

Developer Blue Isle Studios says this “is designed to showcase exploration, building, and progression without holding the experience back. Once you build a ship, you’re free to set sail in any direction, discovering new islands and points of interest as you choose."

The demo gives you control over your own custom world, available to play either solo or in co-op, and you get eight hours to do whatever you’d like in that world. Once you’ve rinsed out that time, feel free to start over in a brand new world.

Up to 10 players are supported in each world, which is great if you have friends. But if you don’t, Blue Isle Studios has also made sure those who prefer a solo experience can also get some enjoyment out of it.

“This actually turned out to be a very good survival game with it's own twist, having buildable flying ships. Although the speed of the ship was somewhat slow, I enjoyed my time in this world. The gameplay on land reminded me of ARK and Palworld,” reads one positive review.

“The art style is beautiful, the sky exploration feels unique and the gameplay mechanics are engaging and creates a sense of wonder: it’s already a satisfying experience for a demo, and it has definitely made me want to see more of the full game,” reads another review from a demo player.

Guardians of the Wild Sky doesn’t have a release date yet, but you can grab the demo now from Steam.
