If you took Pokémon’s iconic creature battling formula and blended it with No Man’s Sky sprawling open-world exploration, you’d end up with something like Temtem: Pioneers.
The title Temtem should be ringing a bell; the creature collecting MMORPG landed back in 2022.
Four years on, the developers at Crema have unveiled the next evolution of the franchise in the form of Temtem: Pioneers, an RPG survival spin-off.
“Step into the Downbelow, a vast and untamed region where Temtem roam wild and every expedition opens the door to new discoveries,” teases the synopsis.

“Temtem: Pioneers blends creature collection, survival gameplay, and fast-paced action combat into a brand new adventure set in the Temtem universe.
“Far from the comfort of the Airborne Archipelago, you must explore unknown lands, build a home in the wild, and grow alongside the Temtem that help you survive this incredible and challenging world.”
Players will partake in the expected survival fare. That includes gathering materials, building a base, crafting equipment, and exploring - and you won’t do this alone.
As is the case in the base game Temtem, you’ll collect and train up a wide array of Temtem who may need to defend you from threats from time to time.
There are multiple different biomes to explore and new Temtem species to tame. To be precise, there are over 200 Temtem species throughout the game, each with their own unique moves and stats.
They won’t just defend you. You can train Temtem to gather resources or they may help you solve environmental puzzles.
Temtem: Pioneers adds a new battle system where you can quite literally transform into your Temtem rather than directing their movements as the human character.
This makes for a much more dynamic experience and is, in fact, very similar to what the upcoming free-to-play Aniimo is set to offer.
As is the case with many survival RPGs, Temtem: Pioneers can be played both alone or with friends.
“Cooperation opens up new strategies, new experiences and stories you’ll share with friends for years to come,” devs tease.

For now, Temtem: Pioneers lacks a launch date and has only been confirmed for PC.
Given that Temtem originally landed on Nintendo Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S though, there’s definitely hope that we could see additional ports further down the line.
