No Man’s Sky is dropping yet another major free update today as the acclaimed title continues to celebrate its 10th anniversary year.
Hello Games has unveiled the Xeno Arena update which is certain to prove popular with Pokémon fans as players raise, train, and battle alien creatures from across No Man’s Sky’s universe.
“Most of the planets you’ve visited in your travels have always been teeming with wildlife - and now, for the first time, those creatures are not just your companions, but your squad and maybe your champions,” wrote Hello Games’ Sean Murray in a press release.

He continued, “We have this whole universe filled with an infinite variety of creatures, and we've added to that for 10 years now. You have everything from dinosaurs to flying cows to robots to gaseous blobs.
“We started with this thought that you can discover them and name them... but what if all that variety had a gameplay purpose? What if you could collect them, breed them, have them as pets... but also battle them?”
Murray cites Pokémon, Palworld, and World of Warcraft’s pet battling all as key inspirations for the update.
“Now when discovering a rare robotic creature in a far flung purple system planet, you can check their abilities, and for instance discover a powerful neutron blast attack,” Sean added.
“Suddenly it brings a new dimension to exploration. Rare creatures and beautiful pets become something exciting to show off in the Arena.”
The new holo-arenas can be found located in both Space Stations and in the Nexus, with players able to battle their pets against friends, strangers, and NPCs - plus you’ll net some sweet rewards if you’re victorious.
There are daily challenges too. In fact, devs call the holo-arenas “an entire multiplayer game all of its own, with absolutely tons of depth, now existing within No Man’s Sky”. Oh my.

Each of the game’s alien species has a unique elemental affinity tied to their home world which you’ll be able to take advantage of.
For example, “A blob creature evolved on a toxic planet has different abilities to a flying dino born on a frozen moon.”
The rarer the biome of a creature, the stronger that creature is. In fact there are some legendary variants which are the rarest of all.
Players can train, breed, and genetically modify their creatures which all sounds a bit dark but I’m assuming the creatures don’t mind in this universe.
Feeding them or sparring with your little fellas can raise their abilities as you form deeper bonds.
“The Xeno Arena itself is a new multiplayer-enabled structure you can construct and open to other travellers,” devs declared.
“Challenge friends to creature battles, host tournaments, or travel the galaxy taking on other players’ arena champions. Ranks, leagues and future seasonal rewards promise to keep that competition alive.”

Murray remarked, “2026 represents 10 years since we launched and I couldn’t be prouder. For any game to reach such a milestone is a privilege. It wouldn’t be possible without your continued support and we genuinely appreciate it.”
The Xeno Arena update is out across all platforms now with the patch notes available via the No Man’s Sky website.
