PlayStation Plus users will be able to pick up some new free content for Marathon when it launches next month.

Bungie is set to release Marathon in March, and while the game will be coming to Xbox Series X/S and PC in addition to PlayStation 5, there will be a lot of perks for playing it on Sony’s home console.

Bungie is, after all, a subsidiary of Sony Interactive Entertainment, so it makes sense that some incentive for playing on PlayStation would be offered here.

As announced earlier this week, Marathon will get three bonus in-game freebies for PlayStation Plus users to grab when the game launches on 5 March.

These in-game items take the form of exclusive weapon charms based on three different IPs owned by PlayStation, which can be equipped on your weapon at any time during play.

The weapon charms are called For Freedom (based on Helldivers 2), Battle Guitar (based on Death Stranding 2: On The Beach), and Onryō (based on Ghost of Yōtei).

If you want to grab these exclusive items, they’ll be available on the PlayStation Store when Marathon launches on 5 March.

Marathon Will Get A Beta Test Next Week, Here’s How To Join

In the meantime, Marathon will be launching an open beta test for players to check out for free ahead of release. Bungie, calling it the “Server Slam”, announced the dates for this beta test during last week’s Sony State of Play.

  • Start time: 26 February at 6 PM GMT / 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET
  • End time: 2 March at 6 PM GMT / 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET

As for how to get into the beta, Bungie hasn’t announced yet how this will occur but we imagine it’ll be a case of finding the beta on the store and installing it from there.

The beta serves as an introduction to Marathon’s gameplay, where you’ll play enough to get comfortable with the gameplay but won’t see everything.

It includes two zones, Perimeter and Dire Marsh, and allows you to take on contracts for and progress through five different factions: CyberAcme, NuCaloric, Traxus, MIDA, and Arachne.

You will also be able to try out five of the six Runner shells that are available at launch, either as a crew of three or in solo.

Marathon is out on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on 5 March, 2026.
