Bungie is currently experiencing a rough patch.
Marathon is far from the bona fide hit the studio was likely hoping for, with waning player interest and bugs having heavily plagued the game’s launch.
There are, of course, some players who are having a great time; I won’t discredit that.
For the most part, though, Marathon has been a mixed bag of an experience to date.

Just a few days ago, the game launched its second season, only for server issues to prevent anyone from actually diving into it.
An error on the PlayStation Store has also forced gamers to pursue refunds after a listing incorrectly listed that it offered access to the base game of Marathon.
It instead only included access to deluxe edition add-on content.
To try to turn its fortunes around, Marathon has launched a free play period to lure in new players.
The free play period is already up and running and will continue until the end of the day on Tuesday, 9 June.

Simply head on over to the PlayStation Store to get involved. Search for Marathon and you’ll find the free trial.
It includes timed-access to the base game and six runner shells, which basically affect your loadout.
If you’re a PlayStation Plus subscriber, you can actually grab some bonus extras - and that’s whether you’re a free trial player or a longtime fan.
The first bundle up for grabs is the Marathon Digital Bundle for PlayStation Plus - Null Tempest.
“The PlayStation Plus Exclusive Null Tempest Bundle is built around disruption, where you remain unseen, choose your moment, and tear through the enemy,” reads a description of the item pack.
It includes:
Interestingly, this pack is a PlayStation Plus exclusive. You can’t purchase the pack anywhere.
Players of Marathon can also grab the more mundanely named Marathon Digital Bundle for PlayStation Plus.
This item pack includes the FOR FREEDOM Weapon Charm, BATTLE GUITAR Weapon Charm, and ONRYŌ Weapon Charm, so it’s not quite as exciting.
Weapon Charms are purely cosmetic, so while they can make your guns look cool, they don’t actually impact gameplay in any way.
At least the Null Tempest bundle offers something a little bit more interesting.
To access both of these item packs, just search their names on the PlayStation Store or just simply search Marathon and you should be able to locate them both with very little trouble.
Let’s hope that Marathon can gain favour.
Bungie recently announced that it is sunsetting new content for Destiny 2, much to the disappointment of players - especially as Destiny 3 isn’t in development.
