Red Dead Redemption collides with Fallout in this post-apocalyptic RPG

Red Dead Redemption collides with Fallout in this post-apocalyptic RPG

Red Dead Redemption meets Fallout?

We're looking quite far ahead with game that seemingly combines the western atmosphere of Red Dead Redemption and the apocalyptic visuals of Fallout.

Exekiller is a "first-person action-adventure game with a multi-choice story. The game’s plot is set in a dystopian alternate reality world, in which a decimated humanity struggles to cope with the effects of a massive catastrophe that destroyed the Earth."

It's been a while since the last single player Fallout, but nothing beats that style:

Everything on this Steam page for Exekiller screams Fallout and Red Dead Redemption. Although it looks like these cowboys have no cows to rustle, but they have the hats so that counts for something, right? They also seemingly have bionic body parts, which is a little different to the Rockstar Games style.

From the trailer seen on the Steam page, this could shape up to be a brilliant action adventure set in a semi-open-world, with sprawling quests and buffed by some stunning visuals.

"The player takes on the role of Denzel Fenix, the eponymous Exekiller – a bounty hunter in the service of Helion, the ubiquitous corporation headquartered in a massive structure towering over the ruins of New York." says the description, which sets us up for a Fallout-style game taking on the Big Apple.

It can't be mentioned enough, Exekiller looks lovely. There's a wonderful orange and brown colour palette which gives off that apocalyptic look, but also grounds the game in its 1970s timeframe.

In an interesting twist, Exekiller doesn't feature an XP or levelling system, which seem to be shoehorned into practically every game nowadays. Instead, you sculpt your character and playstyle from a selection of mods that bestow abilities and improve weapons. There's also a firm story that can be guided by making decisions that actually tweak the narrative while you play. It's looking like this one could appeal to a wide audience.
