Red Dead Redemption 2 Rare NPC is Taking Players 1000s of Hours to Find

The one thing that really sets Red Dead Redemption 2 apart from its peers is the sheer level of extraneous detail that the developer decided to include to make the world feel like a living, breathing entity.

They did a spectacular job of it as well, with fans still gathering in online forums to discuss tiny features that they noticed on their 4th or 400th run through the story as the always brilliant Arthur Morgan.

The sequel is such a big game that it's easily possible to put 1000+ hours into it and still not see everything it has to offer in its vast open world, even if a lot of it doesn't matter for the main narrative.

Now, one of the rarest encounters in the entire game is drawing attention, with players astounded that they are still yet to come across it, after all this time.

Bob Brownlee Might Be the Rarest Encounter in Red Dead Redemption 2

Over on Reddit, one player shared their encounter with Bob Brownlee, the shirtless, sun worshipping eccentric who tries to rope Arthur in to praising our star with him from the top of a cliff in the middle of the day.

As testament to just how difficult it is to find him, the comments were filled with replies citing playtime and a lack of interactions with the mysterious Bob himself.

"In 1500+ hours of gameplay, I have only ever gotten the first encounter with this feller. No matter how many times I went to the other locations he spawns, he never ever showed up," one comment reads.

Another put forward a compelling theory about how and why interactions, like the one you can have with Bob Brownlee, are put into the game in the first place, saying, "I have a feeling the developers add things as you progress not like a story but like time wise. They add hidden encounters the appear only after a certain amount of dedication to their game. It’s a thank you."

Despite the fact that a lot of people haven't even come across him once in their own games, it's actually possible to meet him 12 separate times across the course of a standard playthrough, before he mysteriously disappears entirely, unable to be found again.

With GTA VI on the way, Rockstar seems to have swung for the fences with their latest upcoming effort, so hopefully there will be plenty more weird and wonderful encounters for us to discover in Vice City.
