Jeffrey Dean Morgan Called Out Over RDR2's Arthur Request, Splits Gamers

Fans don't know what to think

The fact that there hasn't been more chatter around the potential of a Red Dead Redemption adaptation is pretty astounding, all things considered, particularly after the absolute cinema that was the second game.

The story of Arthur Morgan and the Van Der Linde gang was basically note perfect in the way it delivers the narrative (sorry if you don't like the snowy intro), and it left fans wanting more stories in the same world.

Some even want to see more from the same characters, and it seems like at least one of those people is The Walking Dead star Jeffrey Dean Morgan who was recently asked about the potential of a Red Dead adaptation, and his willingness to appear as Arthur Morgan within it.

"That's the one I want to do... not even a question. My favourite genre is western. There’s not even a close second. My son plays that game, and it's freaking awesome," he said, before going on to confirm that he would take on the role of Arthur Morgan "in a heartbeat".

Interestingly, that idea hasn't proved popular with everyone, dividing the player base and opening up a bunch of discussions about what the best direction for a TV show or movie would be.

Fans Think Voice Actors Should Be Given a Chance to Retain the Role

Over on Twitter/X, one user shared their perspective as a voice actor, arguing that Roger Clark should be given the chance to audition for the live action role, applying the same rule to other potential adaptations.

Many of the responses agreed with their perspective, though others pushed back with potential drawbacks to that approach from their viewpoint.

"Especially because in the context of a Rockstar game, it's also motion capture, not just voice. Arthur's walk, how he animates and moves his face, how he reacts to things, how he shoots weapons. It's all Roger Clark. He'd bring Arthur to life because he already did," one comment read.

Another countered by saying, "I want to agree with this, but Roger's performance in the game is already complete, in a sense. Having him re-do it in live action would almost 'cheapen' the video game, as 'another performance', instead of keeping it as a pure character. It should be another person."

"I'm of two minds that VA and screen acting are different skill sets but in the other direction, VA work should be respect and not just have a big screen name voice a character with their shtick. But at least auditioning would be nice," a third said.

The conversation around adaptations is an interesting one, and there are no immediately right or wrong answers. We just hope that if it does materialise, the production team seeks to bring the franchise forward positively.
