Fallout players have finally worked out what the Season 2 countdown is building towards, and you’re not going to like it.

The season finale of Fallout Season 2 drops later today, or the early hours of tomorrow for UK viewers, and over the past few weeks there’s been a mysterious countdown tied to the show that’s had fans racking their brains in anticipation.

It’s been part of an interactive site that’s been regularly updated as the show’ second season has gone on, with various behind-the-scenes looks and even a fake talk show hosted by the Snakeoil Salesmen.

The countdown fans have been keeping an eye on though was believed to be tied to the games, as many believed Bethesda were finally going to drop the long-awaited Fallout 3 Remastered.

Fallout 3 appeared alongside The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion in documents that leaked during the Microsoft V FTC trial, and with Oblivion getting a remaster not too long after it was only a matter of time before Fallout 3 got the same treatment.

Unfortunately it seems this countdown has nothing to do with Fallout 3: Remastered, nor is it have anything to do with a Fallout: New Vegas remaster.

Viewers have figured out what it’s actually building towards.

According to metadata uncovered by Reddit user clintgh, what this countdown is actually for is a 3D room explorer, specifically the Mr House penthouse set seen in the TV series.

Fans will be able to scope out the penthouse as if they were really there, sort of like on Google Maps where you can drop the camera down to street-level and see what’s about.

That’s all it is though unfortunately, nothing to do with Bethesda or what upcoming games it might have cooking.

This will be disappointing to many I’m sure but it actually makes a lot of sense.

While Bethesda has worked closely with Amazon on the Fallout TV series it would be strange to see a new game announced through channels not owned by Bethesda or Xbox.

What this does mean however is Fallout 3 Remastered could still get announced, just not via this mysterious countdown.

If the remaster does exist I’d imagine Bethesda will announce it itself after the Season 2 finale has aired but insiders claim it’s still a couple of years out, so I wouldn’t get your hopes up either way.
