Another day means another newly discovered Red Dead Redemption 2 secret and this one is a mysterious stranger that appears momentarily before disappearing into the distance.
Despite being five years old, Red Dead Redemption 2 is still full to the brim with secret content that players are discovering to this day. With secret rooms, rare random events and hidden bodies recently spotted by fans, Rockstar really went out of its way to encourage exploring.

Now, courtesy of one Reddit user, a mysterious NPC is being talked about. “More than once, I've noticed an NPC watching me from a distance, wave his hand and leave,” the post read. The post featured a clip of this moment which sees an unknown NPC on horseback atop a rock. The user pulls out their binoculars to have a closer look and we see the stranger raise their hand in greeting before turning around and galloping off into the distance.
The world of Red Dead Redemption 2 is home to plenty of weird and wacky NPCs but this is one that I haven’t come across myself. It appears that I am not the only one as the post's comment section was soon full of possible answers. “I think it often leads to an ambush, but it’s nice to know some are just friendly,” one read.
Others guess this stranger could be fellow gang member, Micah, as it's not uncommon for some of the family to come looking for you. However, some argue this could be a ghost of some kind as after approaching the figure, they seemingly vanish into thin air. This would make sense as many people found the encounter to be quite unsettling and Red Dead Redemption 2 is known for some of its horror aspects.
With no concrete information, we can only speculate as to who this waving stranger is and who knows? Maybe another five years from now, we may finally discover who it is.
