Red Dead Redemption 2 player discovers god-send feature after 1900 hours

Red Dead Redemption 2 player discovers god-send feature after 1900 hours

This would've been nice for Red Dead Redemption 2 players to know about... four years ago.

Red Dead Redemption 2 can still surprise us, as one player recently demonstrated on Reddit after totting up 1900 hours of gameplay. Their discovery is a simple but incredibly helpful feature: you can back up your horse.

This may come as a shock to you too because it did to many other RDR2 fans, but you can easily change direction of your horse without doing a full 360. It may sound like an obvious game mechanic for horse riding to have, but far too many of us know the difficulty of adjusting to controls for transport, with horse riding often being the most challenging.

It’s fair to say that failing to master the reins has caused a lot of trouble for players, as user Waste_Cucumber_3683 reveals, “I lost sooooo many delivery wagons before it occured to me that maybe I could just back up. So I googled it. And then I went to bed because I was so embarrassed.”

They weren’t alone, Crustiest_Sock also vented their frustrations, dismayed that it had taken them nine playthroughs to discover this simple feature: “I'm halfway through my ninth and a f***king reddit post is how I learn that you can back up horses…” Others, however, were astonished that it had taken so many hours of gameplay to discover the feature, with one user exclaiming that they couldn’t believe “so many people are just finding this out”.

The confusion over this handy feature makes sense, though – most people wouldn’t think to treat a horse like a wagon and simply reverse it. Add to this the wording in the tutorial, that instructs you to back up your wagon by using the right trigger, and it’s even easier to understand why so many fans were stumped.

Being able to back up your horse isn’t the biggest revelation, with fans recently asking questions about a pretty big RD2 plot hole – how did the gang get to Guarma? If that brain teaser proves too much for you, like it has done a lot of diehard fans, don’t worry because with epic RD2 fails come some equally satisfying wins. I’m talking about the entire town hogtied just for nothing more than morbid curiosity, and the amusement of Reddit users.

However, while we now know how to wrangle, ride, and overlook certain narrative issues, what some players don’t know is if they’ll be able to play RD2 again, after some have found the game unplayable after a recent update. Hopefully it won’t be long before they return to Guarma, backing up their horses wherever they go.
