It might finally be happening, after years of patient fans asking, Red Dead Redemption 2 seems to be getting a ‘next-gen’ update for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles.

While it hasn’t been officially confirmed by Rockstar Games, folks on social media have discovered that a recent update to the Red Dead Redemption 2 Steam page might be pointing to a new version of the game.

Now, you’ll likely want to take this with a pinch of salt, for now, but it has been reported that the description for the game has been rewritten after many years.

Both assets and the game’s description have been tweaked, and while that might not suggest a next-gen update, it has fans wondering why Rockstar Games would bother to change the wording.

Many are understandably sceptical, but this is something that has been begged for, and with GTA VI on the way, perhaps the studio has finally found the time to bring their masterpiece up to modern standards with some tweaks.

For so long, since the release of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles, fans have wanted to see their favourite game running at 60fps, ideally with some new textures and features thrown into the mix.

Even just the increase in framerate would satisfy most, though some fans worry that if this mythical update is real, that it will be a whole new purchase.

One fan on Twitter notes, “Better not be a $60 thing for those of us that already own the game, lol, but LFG.”

All eyes will be on Rockstar Games and Take-Two as we near the next investment earnings call, in the hopes that Red Dead Redemption 2 makes the leap into this current generation of power.

While we wait for the - now seemingly inevitable - next-gen update, Red Dead Redemption 2 players have spotted a great new way to get some extra life out of the game.

“I’ve been playing without the minimap and it’s a wonderful experience,” one Reddit user shared.

Indeed, turning off this one setting makes for an infinitely more immersive experience, and one we can wholeheartedly recommend.
