With Fallout Season 3 expected to arrive in 2027, excitement for the hit Prime Video series is building. However, cryptic social media posts from two of its main stars, Aaron Moten and Walton Goggins, have seemingly hinted at a major character departure, leaving fans worried about the fate of fan favourite The Ghoul.
Based on Bethesda's beloved post-apocalyptic RPG series, the Fallout live-action series made its debut on Amazon's Prime Video in April 2024, followed by a second season in December 2025. Season 3 reportedly wrapped filming in October 2026, with a release expected sometime in early to mid-2027, although this has yet to be confirmed.
The series follows Lucy MacLean (Ella Purnell), Brotherhood of Steel member Maximus (Aaron Moten) and The Ghoul (Walton Goggins). Their stories begin separately but gradually intertwine as they navigate the dangers of the wasteland.
Aaron Moten's cryptic Fallout Season 3 post sparks character death fears
In a Threads post, Aaron Moten, who plays Maximus in the Fallout series, shared a video featuring the cast and crew, alongside these cryptic words: "Season 3 is sunset for some of us. Look at this big, beautiful Fallout production family. Cheers to everyone and cheers to the hard work! We can't wait to share it with you all!!"
While his video also features Bethesda head honcho Todd Howard, it's his use of the word "sunset" that has caught fans' attention. The term is often used when something is coming to an end, which, of course, has sparked speculation in the comments.

"What do you mean sunset?! Yooooo WHAT DO YOU MEAN SUNSET?!" exclaimed r4vezer0.
"I will miss this series," declared notuhskcaj, but a24luckygamer made an important point, saying, "Season 3 is not the final season." This perhaps adds fuel to the speculation that Moten could be referring to a character's departure rather than the Fallout series as a whole.

Walton Goggins' cryptic Fallout Season 3 post sparks fears for The Ghoul
Walton Goggins shared a video on Instagram of himself driving along a sunny California road with the sunroof down, mouthing the words to "Ramble On" by Led Zeppelin. The video seemingly marks the end of filming for Fallout Season 3, but fans are worried it could mean something more.
"Just took it off for the last time.. Season 3⌠Gatdamn this felt good. I wish this road or this song would never end. Gonna miss you, California⌠til the next time," his post read.
While most of the comments praised just how cool Walton Goggins is, srssrssrs3 exclaimed: "WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU TOOK IT OFF FOR THE LAST TIME?!?!"
While most of the characters in Fallout are loved by fans, it's probably fair to say that if The Ghoul were to die, it could spark more social media outcry than almost anyone else. His death, or that of Lucy or Maximus, could also have huge implications for a potential fourth season.

Fallout Season 2 ending explained and what it means for Season 3
Obviously, there will be spoilers here, so consider this your warning if you've not finished watching Fallout Season 2.
At the end of Season 2, Lucy and Maximus reunite as Caesar's Legion marches on New Vegas, setting the stage for another conflict. Meanwhile, after roughly 200 years of searching since the Great War, The Ghoul discovers that his wife and daughter may be in Colorado.
Furthermore, a coming war, the Enclave's mysterious "Phase Two" and Liberty Prime Alpha were also teased ahead of Fallout Season 3.
Of course, we should take all this speculation with a pinch of salt until something is officially confirmed. Even if the comments come from actors closely involved with the series, their posts are very much open to interpretation.
