Filming is reportedly underway on the third season of HBO’s The Last of Us, which may also serve as the show’s last.
The second season was met with a mixed reception following a critically acclaimed first outing, so no doubt showrunner Craig Mazin will be hoping to get things back on track.
Whether that’s possible remains to be seen following the departure of co-showrunner and The Last of Us creator Neil Druckmann.
Mazin will, however, return to bring Abby’s half of The Last of Us Part II to life with Kaitlyn Dever set to take centre stage.

The upcoming season will feature several cast adjustments. After Danny Ramirez stepped away due to scheduling conflicts, Manny will now be potrayed by Jorge Lendeborg Jr.
Although she doesn’t feature in Abby’s half of the story, the late great Catherine O’Hara was due to return as Gail but due to her untimely passing, that storyline will likely have been cut.
The third season is also set to add some new faces into the mix; namely, Abby’s new companions Yara and Lev, and fans think they’ve discovered who is bringing those characters to life.
It looks as if Kyriana Kratter and Michelle Mao may have joined the cast of The Last of Us.
Kratter is best known for playing KB in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew whilst Mao has just appeared as Rosamund Li in the latest season of Bridgerton.
Both are fantastic actresses and fans think they may have been secured to play Lev and Yara.
As reported by Reddit user Cheap-Recording3912, both actresses have been followed on social media in recent days by plenty of important people tied to The Last of Us including department leads, executive producers, fellow cast members, and Craig Mazin himself.
Alongside that, Kratter’s team has teased a major new TV show booking for her, whilst Mao has claimed to be training for a new role.
You can see why fans are connecting the dots in this way.
If this casting is accurate, it’s generated a mixed response. Fans wholeheartedly agree that both actresses are fantastic but if they are indeed playing Yara and Lev, some are voicing that the latter should be portrayed by a trans actor.
“Kratter would be great as Yara. I really liked her performance in Skeleton Crew. They need to cast an actual trans actor as Lev,” said one user.
“Yara and Lev are my guess for their roles if they are in fact joining the show next season,” added another.
“I love her, she was great in Skeleton Crew,” one fan said of Kratter.
“It would be great to get an actual trans person to play Lev,” said another comment.
Take this all with a pinch of salt for now. Kratter and Mao’s involvement isn’t outright confirmed and even if it’s true, we don’t yet know for certain who they’ll be playing.
