Red Dead Redemption 2 has more players than ever, but Rockstar doesn't care

Red Dead Redemption 2 just broke its concurrent player record on PC, over four years on from its release.

Red Dead Redemption 2 fans continue to prove their allegiance towards everyone’s favourite yeehaw game, despite the fact that the devs have moved on from it.

As PCGamesN reports, over four years on from its initial release, Red Dead Redemption 2 broke its all time concurrent PC player peak on Sunday (8 January), with a whopping 69,134 people playing at once. That’s according to data from Steam Charts.

Take a look at some of our favourite wins and fails from Red Dead Redemption 2 below.

There’ve been a few minor updates to Red Dead Online lately - some limited-time activities and rewards allowed players to earn double money XP and triple character and role XP. To match the holiday season, there were also festive decorations and freebies to claim throughout December. Perhaps these extra activities inspired more people to jump on RDR2 once the events ended? Admittedly, the new player spike does seem a little random, but there’s never a bad time to play through the gorgeous single-player adventure.

Rockstar Games confirmed last year that it’s basically done with Red Dead Online - those minor seasonal events are pretty much all we can expect from it going forward. It seems as though all the focus is going towards other things - hopefully GTA VI. Perhaps this will finally be the year that we get a trailer? It’s bound to happen eventually.

Last year, a huge leak for GTA VI surfaced online, and seemingly confirmed both the protagonists and location for the upcoming title. Rockstar confirmed that the leak was real, and revealed that it’d been accessed by a third party as a result of a network intrusion. At the time, the devs claimed that they didn’t expect that the incident would have any long-term effect on their upcoming projects. We can all look forward to the official trailer completely breaking the internet whenever it’s dropped, anyway.

For now though, all we can do is bide our time, and hey, playing Red Dead Redemption 2 is certainly one great way to do so.
