Your PlayStation 5 games are about to look a heck of a lot better. Provided you have the kit, of course.
PlayStation is currently in the process of rolling out a major update that it first teased earlier this year. Over the next week or so, PlayStation 5 owners can expect the long-awaited arrival of Variable Refresh Rate (VRR).
VRR, for those of you that don't know or care, is a feature that only works on TVs with HDMI 2.1 functionality. The bottom line is this feature makes games look noticeably smoother by syncing the refresh rate of the TV directly with the console.
Over on the PlayStation Blog it was confirmed that VRR is being rolled out as we speak, and a number of games are already being updated to take advantage of the new feature. Games like Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered, Call Of Duty: Vanguard, Resident Evil Village, and more will all get the VRR treatment.

"Today, we’re excited to announce that Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support will start rolling out globally to PS5 players this week," PlayStation explained.
"On HDMI 2.1 VRR-compatible TVs and PC monitors, VRR dynamically syncs the refresh rate of the display to the PS5 console’s graphical output. This enhances visual performance for PS5 games by minimizing or eliminating visual artifacts, such as frame pacing issues and screen tearing. Gameplay in many PS5 titles feels smoother as scenes render seamlessly, graphics look crisper, and input lag is reduced. Previously released PS5 games can be fully optimized for VRR through a game patch and future games may include VRR support at launch."
While this won't be hugely exciting news to everyone - especially those with TVs that aren't compatible - this is a pretty huge update for those of us who are obsessed with getting the best possible picture and experience from our games. Short of just buying a high-end PC, obviously.
