PlayStation 6 teaser has gamers torn over end of PS5’s life

"It just feels much too soon"

A new teaser for the PS6 has players torn over what this means for the PS5.

Last week, Sony revealed that the PlayStation 6 was “top of mind” and that it would be exploring new ways to get players to engage with the services.

“While we cannot share further details at this stage, the future of the platform is top of mind,” said Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Hideaki Nishino. “We are committed to exploring a new and enhanced way for players to engage with our content and services.”

This year will mark the fifth anniversary of the PS5, and although it doesn’t feel that long ago, it looks like the PS6 might not be far off.

Now, PlayStation gamers are torn over what looks like the end of the PS5’s life and the beginning of the PS6.

Some are frustrated over the console’s lack of first-party titles, while others want to see what the next generation can bring.

“The PS5 has no games, and they're saying that the PS6 is their top priority?” writes a user on the Console Gaming Reddit page.

“There are amazing games on PS5,” wrote a user in the comments. “But I just expected better from Sony first party, especially from ND.”

In all fairness, it takes a lot longer to develop games nowadays than it did 10 or 15 years ago. We’re roughly getting one or two big first-party exclusives from Sony per year, and it seems like that number won’t increase for now.

“It's five years old, but people struggled to get their hands on one for well into the first two years, and it hasn't been terribly long since publishers stopped releasing PS4 versions of games,” wrote another reply in the comments.

“So, yeah, I get the logic behind Sony working on their next device already. It just feels much too soon to even be talking about this from a consumer standpoint.”

It’s also worth remembering that Sony recently cancelled a bunch of live service games after a big internal push for them a few years ago.

It’s assumed a lot of the studios working on these games have pivoted to other projects, including single-player titles, which should mean the PS6 might have a healthier release pipeline.
