A PlayStation 6 release date rumour has left fans torn, and I don’t blame them.

Sony hasn't officially revealed the PlayStation 6 yet, but it has at least confirmed that its development is already underway.

When Sony does reveal the PlayStation 6, it will be interesting to see how much of a graphical and performance leap there will be over the PS5 Pro, as well as any additional features that it may have.

That being said, with the PlayStation 5 Pro having a launch price of £699.99, which does not include a disc drive or vertical stand, there’s every chance that the PS6 could be the most expensive console at launch.

However, despite knowing that the PlayStation 6 is in production, we can only guess when it might be released, but one Twitter user believes they may have the answer.

The Twitter user in question is Detective Seeds, and they claim that upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro updates will carry the hardware to the release of the PS6.

Which, to be fair, makes sense because something similar happened with the PlayStation 4 Pro to the PS5. Detective Seeds then predicted that the PS6 will be released in 2029.

The PS5 Pro 2026 update is going to carry the PS hardware gen to the PS6 2029 release window. PS4 owners will be incentivized to upgrade to the PS5 Pro next year, and games will be rolling out more updates and patches increasing how well they look and play and on the Pro. This…

Typically, the gap between each PlayStation console generation is about six to seven years. Yet, I wouldn't be surprised if Sony were able to squeeze a bit more juice out of the PS5 Pro before releasing the PS6.

“2029 is too early for next gen, honestly,” replied TheGuuruGuru to the tweet from Detective Seed. “It should be 2030.”

“Dude says this so seriously when the PS6 is literally coming out in 2027,” claimed LacunaAssassin, which fits perfectly into the generation release timeline.

“Another one! We haven’t seen half of what the PS5 Pro is capable of!” exclaimed oldmangaminguru.

As always, we should take all rumours with a pinch of salt until officially confirmed. We’ll be sure to provide updates on the PlayStation 6 when we learn more.
