The Pokémon franchise is full of mysteries yet to be solved, with one of the biggest being where do the eggs come from?
Now that probably sounds like an impromptu birds and the beedrills joke but it’s a genuine phenomenon, no one knows where eggs come from in the Pokémon world.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A drops later this year for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, will you be playing?
Most Pokémon players will have come across eggs at one point or another throughout the games, as they’re often given away as free gifts from The Pokémon Company and some NPCs might give them to you during the story.
You can also breed Pokémon at Daycare Centres which is commonly exploited by pro players, as breeding the right Pokémon can yield some powerful teams.

As one fan pointed out in a recent Reddit thread though, canonically “literally no one knows where eggs come from.”
Leave two compatible Pokémon together and you could just casually find an enormous egg when you return, its size, shape and colours often being exactly the same as every other.
“But do they really not know, or are they just not willing to explain where babies come from to a 12 year old they just met?” asked a fan in response, before another answered “No, they literally do not know, Cynthia comments that no one has actually seen an egg come into existence. They actually just appear when you turn around.”
Will The Pokémon Company provide an explanation one day? Probably not, as it’s not exactly necessary to the plot and it’s funnier to imagine an egg just popping into existence with no rhyme or reason.

So next time you leave some of your ‘mon at Daycare and come back to an egg, just know the staff are just as confused as you are as to how it got there.
