PlayStation users lament 'frustrating' new free game

PlayStation Plus subscribers aren't thrilled with one of this month's free titles after branding it too "frustrating."

Yesterday, PlayStation officially confirmed November’s PlayStation Plus essential tier line-up and whilst it isn’t the worst I’ve seen, it’s hardly great. From 1 November, subscribers can get their hands on Nioh 2, the LEGO Harry Potter Collection, and Heavenly Bodies with the month’s Extra and Premium tier titles set to be revealed at a later date.

Personally, I’m pretty hyped for the LEGO Harry Potter Collection. As I currently work my way though LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, I’ve realised just how enjoyable a bit of silly LEGO fun can be. There’s one title that subscribers aren’t thrilled about though: Nioh 2. It may be critically acclaimed but Nioh 2 is frustrating to say the least.

Speaking of PlayStation, who’s hyped for God of War Ragnarök? If you missed it, check out our preview of the first five hours here, plus the latest trailer below.

If you don’t know, Nioh 2 was released by Team Ninja back in 2020. The action RPG sees players take on the role of Hide, a half-yōkai (a type of Japanese supernatural entity). The problem is, Nioh 2 has some pretty complex combat systems which, if you stick with, can be rewarding but for those of us who lack a bit of patience, Nioh 2 can be testing to say the least.

Subscribers gathered on the r/PlayStationPlus Reddit thread to discuss the game. Efsleep wrote, “I’m excited for Nioh 2 but in all likelihood will get frustrated and quit,” while boychik0830 replied, “That’s what happened to me when I played it a few years ago. I don’t think I got past the first hour of the game.”

To give you an idea of just how hard Nioh 2 can be, jamilslibi wrote, “I died a lot with the first boss, something like 30 to 50 deaths but if you push through, you’re gonna notice that fighting that boss was the same as training.” Danielrolivei added, “I’m a souls veteran and the ship demon is f**king hard.” Get the idea? Take on Nioh 2 with caution. Warning: Rage quitting lies ahead.
