PlayStation update fixes issue that's been bugging fans for years

The latest PlayStation update has fixed the console's most annoying feature that saw users get purchase emails for free downloads.

This is joyous news, and I truly mean that - no exaggeration detected. A PlayStation update has fixed an annoying console issue that’s been bugging users for years, especially if you’re subscribed to PlayStation Plus.

Speaking of PlayStation Plus, it’s been a good month for the subscription service. Essential tier subscribers can currently grab Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Tails of Iron, and day one release Meet Your Maker. There’s also a bunch of free extra DLC available if you choose to download Sackboy. Just yesterday, extra and premium tier subscribers gained an extra 16 titles including the highly-requested Kena: Bridge of Spirits. From now on though, you won’t get an annoying email when you choose to download said freebies.

PlayStation 5 exclusive Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores launches next week. Take a look at the game in action below.

If there’s one thing that unites all PlayStation owners (besides the obvious of owning a PlayStation), it’s that we all hate those ‘Thank you for your purchase’ emails that pop up in your inbox after downloading a free game. Usually, I won’t actually see the email until several hours after redeeming said game so I’ll do a minor ‘I’ve been hacked’ panic before realising that oh wait, it’s just my freebie.

It’s truly cursed to call these redemptions ‘purchases’ but alas, those emails are no longer being sent out. See? I did tell you it was joyous news. Over on Reddit, subscribers have begun to notice the change this week. User Lollomojo wrote, “I’ve received dozens and dozens of these emails for every single free DLC I download, while for the latest games (this month’s essentials), I haven’t received any emails. Tried to download a game from PS Plus extra and nothing.”

Andythabaws added, “I didn’t get an email either [..] it makes sense not to get an email saying you paid $0 for a free game in my eyes anyway.” I quite agree.
