It's always nice when a big sequel gets announced and the previous game is available on PlayStation Plus. It gives you plenty of time to catch up before the new game potentially takes over your life.

That's certainly the case with Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen and its sequel. This RPG already had millions of fans across the world and now it stands to garner even more as it joins the free games of PlayStation Plus.

With Dragon's Dogma 2 coming soon, now is a great time to play the original

Dragon's Dogma has a huge fan base due to its deep narrative and superb hack and slash gameplay. The game focuses on your player character, an Arisen, who must save the world of Gransys in true RPG fashion, by fighting enormous monsters and rebelling against the world around them.

The game takes a lot of inspiration from other Capcom titles such as Devil May Cry, which also featured plenty of hacking and slashing action. Although, choosing another character class can lead to some spell-slinging or ranged attacks. There are several classes to choose from including; Fighter, Strider, Mage, Warrior, Mystic Knight, Ranger, Assassin, Sorcerer and Magic Archer.

You will embark on your journey with three 'pawns' in tow. These pawns are AI controlled party members who will fight alongside you through a deep combat system that capitalises on each pawns' strengths. There's a lot of Monster Hunter gameplay here as you try to take down large foes that would otherwise flatten the general population. It's up to you to become the hero.

With hundreds of hours of gameplay, you're certainly going to get a lot of mileage out of this one, especially if you like to replay games utilising different choices for your heroes. You can redeem Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen on your PlayStation today.
