PlayStation Plus' latest free game is arguably the PS5’s best exclusive yet.

Recently Sony announced its latest line-up of games that will be available to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscription tiers, and it includes some absolute bangers, to say the least.

The May 2023 line-up offered some of the best games currently available on PlayStation Plus with a worth of about £600 and it included the likes of the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot trilogy, Dishonored 2 as well as its expansion Death of the Outsider, and The Evil Within 2 to name but a few.

However, quite possibly the star of the lineup is Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart from Marvel’s Spider-Man developer, Insomniac Games. Released in June 2021 as a PlayStation 5 exclusive, this next-gen title showcased the dawn of new-age console gaming like no other.

For starters, it looks absolutely gorgeous, so much so that it’s difficult to spot the transition from real-time gameplay to cinematics, players would also be able to seamlessly travel from one dimension to the next with no visible loading times, and it performed at a super-smooth framerate.

In terms of the reception from critics and fans alike, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart earned scores on Metacritic of 88 from critics and 8.5 from fans. To be honest, I’m surprised that both scores are not a little higher than that.

In our review of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, we scored it a perfect 10, saying: “This is the sort of game that everyone can play and enjoy, and although it's a shooter through and through, it's not violently graphic and the storyline is lighthearted and easy to get along with.

“The world, characters, and gameplay are all gorgeous. It's maybe the most impressive game I have ever played. I look forward to the future of Ratchet and Clank and Rivet, and Insomniac's plans for the trio.”

The latest PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium games will be available for PS5 and PS4 from tomorrow Tuesday 15 May.
