It’s been over a month since Xbox increased the prices of their games and consoles, with many units jumping up by over $100.
This was, in part, set in motion due to President Trump’s tariff war on China, but both hardware and software prices are steadily increasing regardless, and it has Xbox fans worried.
And it’s not just in America, Microsoft has bumped up prices across Europe too, in a move many fans thought was to further mitigate the tariff rises, by spreading out the extra costs across various territories.

Over on Reddit, the news didn’t go down well, and it has many fearing just how much consoles and games will cost in the next generation.
“That's... crippling, said Eglwyswrw, who continued, “I mean I get it, 99% of XBOX consoles come from China and video game consoles aren't exempt from the US tariffs but come on man why raise the prices literally everywhere.”
“For those who live in Canada. The price is now $879.99 CAD for the 2TB Xbox Series X. Controllers are now $99.99 CAD. Big f**king yikes,” comments SystrayVoid.
With the arrival of the Nintendo Switch 2, and Nintendo shifting the prices of their first-party software upward, it will mean that others can follow suit and make it the norm across the industry.

This will potentially price many fans out of their hobby, and leave passionate players with the only option to wait for sales.
“If Sony holds the PlayStation’s price, this is pretty much it for Xbox hardware,” warns Rocker_Raver.
Some fans consider it greed, while others see the cost of components being a problem for Microsoft, but the rise in price is still unprecedented, as Cravenous explains, “With the exception of mid-gen upgrades, I don’t recall this sort of price increase happening. Consoles have always gotten cheaper as the generation progressed.”
Who knows what kind of prices we’ll see for the next Xbox.
