Xbox and PlayStation are both working on the next generation of console gaming, which will likely drop sometime in the next couple of years according to the latest insider reports.
While Nintendo releases a new console whenever it feels like it, Xbox and PlayStation will be competing to deliver the most high-tech piece of hardware gamers have seen so far, but it’ll come at a cost.
According to leaks PlayStation is developing three consoles in total, one of which is the base PlayStation 6 which will reportedly cost around the same as a PlayStation 5 Pro. Then there’s a handheld console similar to a Nintendo Switch 2 in design, and finally there’s a more cost-effective console, similar to the Xbox Series S. Keep in mind the PlayStation 5 Pro costs around £700.
A new post from hardware leaker Kepler_L2 suggests Microsoft’s next console could cost twice as much, or at least be much more expensive, due to its contents.

This is largely due to the rumour that the next Xbox will feature AMD's semi-custom Magnus APU, which will apparently raise the cost excessively.
The next Xbox console will have more in common with a high-end PC than a home console is what we’re getting at.
This does match up with Xbox’s latest campaign that presents just about everything as “being an Xbox.”
The question now is will Xbox users pay that much for the next major hardware drop? The whole point of home consoles is they’re not as powerful as PCs but more affordable and take up less space so if the leaks are true and Xbox is indeed embracing a more PC-focused approach to hardware it could alienate a big chunk of its consumer-base.

Only time will tell, though at a glance it looks like PlayStation will retain its spot as the best hardware provider.
