Xbox Next-Gen Console Pricing Leaves Gamers Staggered

Brace yourselves and your wallets

Xbox fans are shocked to see the recent price increases for hardware, and are becoming increasingly concerned about being priced out of the next generation of consoles.

A recent spike in pricing for Xbox consoles comes after tariffs begin hitting the company hard, and see that the hardware cost rises to $649.99 for the Xbox Series X, up from $599.99.

This arrives at a time when costs of video gaming as a hobby is being scrutinised, with many new games costing $80, or more, depending on the publisher.

It’s not just the Xbox Series X that saw an increase, the Series S price has also risen from $429.99 to $449.99.

Understandably, fans are concerned as to where this leads, with many of them wondering just how much we could be paying for the next generation of Xbox.

On Reddit, where the news was posted, players certainly had something to say.

“Geez, at these costs, the consoles I bet will be collecting dust on store shelves for a long time.” comments one user.

In reply, another Redditor notes, “Yes, no one is paying $650 for a 4 to 5-year-old system this is crazy times!”

It is pointed out by some that the Xbox Series X was much cheaper in previous years, with this user stating, “The 1TB Series X was on sale for $339 on December 19, 2023. It is now $650.”

What this means for future consoles is anyone’s guess, but if the U.S. tariffs are having such an impact, then consumers will be feeling the pinch in the coming years.

One user posts their worries, saying, “If there's a Series S equivalent in the next generation, it's gonna cost like $500 or something ridiculous. The way I see it, I can either spend $300-400 on a new GPU, or I can spend $500-800 on a next gen console”

We’d better all prepare our wallets for the next couple of years.
