It seems as though all hands are on deck over at Sony with news of the PlayStation 6 and an accompanying handheld being on the horizon.
What makes this all the more shocking is that fans are only now getting to terms with the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, and the PlayStation Portal.
All in all, it feels as though Sony is moving too fast for customers to be able to keep up.
As it stands, the PlayStation 5 first launched back in 2020 but was met with stock shortages, issues with scalpers, and the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, many users did not get their hands on the console for many months or even years later.

Then the PlayStation 5 Pro followed in 2024 as a mid-generation update and to top it all off, the PlayStation Portal handheld arrived in 2023.
To summarise, all of Sony’s latest hardware is still pretty brand-new.
However, according to tech experts Digital Foundry, the PlayStation 6 handheld is looking more and more real as the days go on, despite merely being a rumour at the time of writing.
KeplerL2, a reliable Sony leaker reveals that the PS6 handheld will be similar to that of the current PC handhelds on the market as well as Xbox’s upcoming Ally X.

Digital Foundry believes that the PS6 handheld will be able to run existing PS5 software, albeit at lower frame rates and resolution, and will use Sony’s current PSSR upscaling technology to smooth out image quality.
However, this begs the question as to where the PlayStation 6 will fit in.
Will it release alongside the PS6 handheld or will it be released a lot sooner? It would make sense for the PlayStation 6 console to be released first but with handhelds becoming more and more popular in recent years, it is hard to say.
Either way, things are moving quick over at Sony so let us hope it will be worth it.
