Goodness me, so many incredible games have been released this year. We’re certainly by no means short of Game of the Year contenders.

While I don’t think it’ll quite manage to nab the accolade, you’d expect Diablo IV to at least garner a nomination. The game was released earlier this year to both critical and commercial acclaim. In fact, it made more money for Activision Blizzard in one week than Diablo Immortal did in a whole year. Diablo IV hit a sales milestone of $666 million in just five days - and I’m sure Lilith is very proud of that number. It’s Blizzard’s fastest selling game to date, although after launching on Steam, Diablo IV has come under fire for its pricey battle pass and monetisation techniques. If you’re yet to dive in, it is free for Xbox players to check out this weekend.

Take a look at Diablo IV in action below.

This weekend marks the latest of Xbox’s Free Play Days where a bunch of titles become, you guessed it, free to play for a limited time. The event is already underway, having kicked off on Thursday 19 October at 12am PDT. It’ll run until Sunday 22 October at 11.59pm PDT. There are four games on offer: NBA 2K24, Lawn Mowing Simulator, Diablo IV, and Hokko Life.

For the most part, you do have to be an Xbox Game Pass subscriber in order to join in the fun. I say ‘for the most part’, as there is an exception this time around. Diablo IV is available for all players to enjoy, regardless of whether you’re a Game Pass subscriber or not. The only catch is that the free trial caps out at 10 hours, but 10 hours is plenty of time to see if you gel with the game.

Xbox said that these kinds of timed trials allow them to “get newer games into the program faster” so you should expect to see more in the future. But what are you waiting for? Dive in.
