Steam gamers furious as massive 2025 game removed without warning

To be fair, this isn't Steam's fault

Quite possibly the most successful indie game of 2025 was just removed from sale in Australia on Steam, but likely not for the reason you’d suspect.

Schedule I, the massively popular drug dealing simulator, just disappeared from the Steam storefront in Australia… and fans over on the r/Steam subreddit aren’t too happy about it.

“Imagine getting salty about a game. Wild,” commented user Comickid1088. “Imagine thinking a game will somehow enact every gamer to switch professions to become a drug dealer.”

“It'll never happen but this joke of a country needs to abolish the censorship board”, replied user ChinoGambino. “It's a deeply pathetic aspect of Australia.”

Take a look at the game's trailer.

The thing is, the comments in that thread are based on some outdated information. That being said, it is easy to see why they came to the conclusion that they did.

Australia’s video game censorship laws are extremely strict, and one thing they hate more than anything is the depiction of real life drugs.

Schedule I is a game about growing and distributing drugs, so you’d be forgiven for assuming this is just another classic case of Australia banning a game for its promotion of narcotics.

Well, according to the game’s dev, Tyler, it’s actually a result of a bit of a ratings mix-up on their behalf.

“To anyone in Australia, you might’ve noticed Schedule I is hidden on Steam,” Tyler stated in a post on Twitter.

“Don’t worry, the game hasn’t been banned, but it turns out all games sold in Australia need to receive a classification/age rating… I’m contacting the ratings agency today and getting this resolved ASAP. Apologies for the inconvenience!”

Huh. Well, there you go. Guess Australia’s stance on drug censorship has loosened up a little bit in the past year or so.

Or, maybe this game just slipped under their radar, and they’ll officially ban it once Tyler’s request goes through…
