This brand new free download on Steam looks like it's on track to be 2025’s most visually stunning game, and I’m sure fans of Tim Burton’s classics like The Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride will be more than inclined to agree.
Gloomy Eyes is an upcoming gothic adventure game on Steam from developers Atlas V, Be Revolution Gaming, 3Dar, and Fishing Cactus, and publishers ARTE France and Untold Tales.
The team behind the project describe it as a “self-coop” game, and you can find out for yourself exactly what that means by playing the new demo for the game that just dropped on PC.

Alright but, if you don’t wanna jump into a demo on a whim, what the hell does “self” co-op actually mean?
As the devs explain, you’ll have to take control of both Gloomy and Nena, Gloomy Eyes’ protagonists, in “a completely single-player experience, switching between characters to solve brain-teasing environmental puzzles”.
According to the Steam description, the puzzles seem to be balanced around both Gloomy and Nena’s individual traits, as “each character brings their own set of abilities” to the gameplay, and “you'll need the skills and quirks of both to progress through this delightfully wretched darkness”.
Well, regardless of how good the gameplay ends up being, it’s hard to dispute the fact that it looks absolutely gorgeous.

Apparently, every level in the game is a “handcrafted rotatable diorama”, which means that you’ll need to take advantage of switching between different perspectives to solve all of the puzzles. Sounds like an appropriately fun mechanic for a game as visually pretty as this.
So, when is the full release of Gloomy Eyes set to come out? Not sure, to be honest.
For the time being, it only has a rough 2025 release date, but I’d wager on that being somewhere around the end of October myself. Y’know, for aesthetic purposes.
