One of 2026’s biggest horror games can be played for free on Steam right now, and I’d urge you to give it a go.
Steam might have some bangers on it right now but you should drop whatever you’re currently playing through and give Reanimal a try.
For those that haven’t heard of it, perhaps you’ve heard of Little Nightmares instead. Little Nightmares and Little Nightmares 2 were both developed by Tarsier Studios and published by Bandai Namco.
Tarsier’s parent group, Embracer Group, later wanted the studio to work on original IPs instead of serialisations which prompted the studio to leave Bandai Namco behind in favour of a new publisher, THQ Nordic.

This is the origins of Reamimal, a game that has a similar vibe and style to Little Nightmares but is a completely different IP.
On Steam its description reads: “The creators of Little Nightmares I & II have returned to take you on a darker, more terrifying journey than ever before. In this horror adventure game, a brother & sister go through hell to rescue their missing friends and escape the island that they used to call home.”
To go a little deeper, the island they once called home is now filled with mutilated and mutated animals that are dreadfully hungry. If you thought the chase sequences of the Little Nightmares games were intense, this is going to be a shock.
The game will also support co-op so you can play it with a friend, ideally one that you’re on a call with so you can communicate properly. There will be some light puzzle solving so communication will be key.

A free demo of the game is available on Steam right now so if you’re interested, I’d urge you to check it out. Unfortunately, the full game isn’t due for release until some time next year so if you end up really liking it, I can only apologise; you’ll just have to wait like the rest of us.
I’m hoping Reanimal does what Little Nightmares 3 unfortunately didn’t. You can catch our review of the game on our site but in short, it didn’t quite capture the magic the previous Little Nightmares games did, likely due to it being a different developer.
While it was great to play a Little Nightmares game in co-o,p the overall experience wasn’t as smooth as we were hoping for with some janky chase sequences and an altogether disappointing story.
