Hades Meets Armored Core in 10/10 Rated Steam Free Download

Soulslike mech rougelikes, where have you been all my life?

This oddly familiar-looking rougelike mech brawler is getting heaps of praise on Steam, because… well, it looks sick as hell for a start. Mechs? Cool. Rougelikes? Cool. FromSoftware influences? Hell yeah.

I am a certified Armored Core enjoyer. Admittedly, my teenage obsession with anything and everything Gundam-related has a lot to do with that, but also, c’mon– FromSoftware have always been the GOATs. You add soulslike combat together with giant mechs, and you’re gonna get a 10/10 banger every single time.

Speaking of 10/10 bangers, what do you reckon you’d get if you mixed the early, PlayStation 2 era of Armored Core games together with the type of rougelike gameplay found in the likes of Hades II and Vampire Survivors?

You’d probably end up with something exactly like today’s perfectly rated Steam demo for RIG Riot.

RIG Riot is an upcoming mech roguelike looter shooter from developer and publisher Sage Boatman, set to release at some point in April this year.

It is a pretty straightforward love letter to FromSoftware’s Armored Core games, right down to the artstyle and the freelancer for hire, corpo vs bandits influenced lore.

However, the one twist to this is the progression system. Instead of earning upgrades through completing specific missions, buffs and weapons are awarded randomly throughout the stages.

Basically, that’s roguelike-speak for “your build is decided at random.” Sounds like a good time to me, and also, apparently, to everyone else on Steam, as the demo for RIG Riot is currently sitting at a perfect 100% Positive rating on the storefront.

Here’s what a few of those glowing reviews have to say about the overall experience.

“This demo is amazing. It quickly is becoming one of my most anticipated releases,” writes Steam user eliseeve67.

“The gameplay loop is addicting and engaging. I've been describing it to my friends as a cross between Armored Core 6, Risk of Rain 2, and Megabonk, and it does all of those things exceptionally well.”

“Loving the demo, such a blast! very close to a Rogue like AC6! With constant updates I can wait to see where it ends up!” commented Steam user Conor.

Well, I didn’t need any more convincing, but now I’m more hyped than ever to try this one out.

Here’s hoping this one is a huge success, because I desperately need Sage Boatman to make a boatload of cash from this game so that we can get even more mech soulslikes. I can’t rely on FromSoftware to get my fix. They probably won’t release another Armored Core until 2030 at the earliest.
