If you’ve ever wanted to jump into the world of tabletop RPGs, but you just can’t seem to get your friendship group together, then video games have your back with plenty of options to play.
Esoteric Ebb is an upcoming game that has a free demo on Steam right now, and it’s impressing players left, right, and centre, earning itself a ‘Very Postive’ rating.
Sure, it might not quite be the same as seeing your mate Dave roll a one on a crucial play, but these games, like Baldur’s Gate 3, can give you a taste of that world.
From a solo developer, and published by Raw Fury, Esoteric Ebb certainly seems to have what it takes to captivate a wealth of players.

A comic book style offers a good amount of charm on first looks, similar to that found in the roguelike Hades and its sequel, and the world design seems to really lean into the worlds offered up by Dungeons & Dragons.
But, look a bit deeper and there are several things that will entice you to play, not simply the comparison made above, but also a chance to play exactly as you want to.
Here, everyone plays as a cleric, and it’s up to you to either help keep your party alive, or set out to ruin the campaign and let everyone die a miserable death.
Of course, every playthrough of the demo, and indeed the full game, will be different because you can try out different spells or opt for a change in dialogue replies and options.

This is a CRPG bringing TTRPGs to life, and while it might not have covered all the bases of what can happen during a real life game of D&D, the trailers and screenshots show that it's trying its best.
This is advertised with the ability to play aggressive, stay back and heal your team, act the helpful Cleric at every opportunity, or sabotage your friends and keep the adventure loot to yourself.
Everything plays out via dialogue options guided by your cleric’s skills, or of course, the trusty dice rolls that will provide a modicum of randomness to your journey.
Esoteric Ebb looks the business, and it’s due for release on 6 December 2025, perhaps making it the ideal game to dive into over your Christmas break.
