PC players often miss out on platform exclusives, particularly when it comes to Nintendo. Unlike Sony and Microsoft, the Japanese developer and publisher doesn’t port their biggest games to other platforms.

This means if you’re on PC and hankering for something like The Legend of Zelda, you’ll have to opt for an indie game inspired by the iconic series.

While not verified, your Steam Deck should have no issue running this retro adventure

Path of the Ory is very much channelling the Nintendo legend from days gone by, combining a retro design with a story set within a medieval narrative.

This 8-bit adventure is perfect for anyone wanting to tap into the good old days of the NES, and there’s a free demo to download and play, right now.

Developed by Starving Lama Games, Path of the Ory is a prequel to one of their other games, Maid of Venia, which is due to release later this year.

The game is described as an “unforgettable adventure through dense forests, ancient ruins, and lively towns.”

The player’s choice will dictate how the story evolves as Kayla, the hero, ventures out into a turbulent world.

She can become anything you set your heart on, within the class system established, meaning her path could lead her to becoming a “skilled warrior, an axe thrower, a staff mage, a flute master, or a blood mage.”

Using turn-based combat, instead of a more action-driven option, players will be able to use tactics and take their time in achieving victory.

It’s worth noting, Path of the Ory does use some generative AI, with the developer saying, “I harnessed the power of AI tools to create compelling and immersive cutscenes.”

The developer notes that they’re happy to revert to a “no AI build” if there is demand for it.

Check out the free demo, on Steam right now, to see for yourself.
