If this year is anything to go by, creating a dinosaur game is difficult.
Code Violet and Tokyo Scramble are two of 2026’s biggest flops and both of them featured our extinct forerunners.
They hardly competed with the greats of yesteryear like the beloved Dino Crisis, although there are a few promising titles on the horizon.
Jurassic Park Survival is one for those, if it ever gets an update; nothing has really been said since its reveal in 2023.

Wilderdark looks pretty decent too, as does Fossilfuel 3, which has just dropped a free taster on PC storefront Steam.
Developed and published by DangerousBob Studio, Fossilfuel 3 is pretty simple in its concept.
Players are dropped into a base overrun with flesh-eating dinosaurs and have to blast their way out.
You shouldn’t expect a masterpiece here, but if you just want some high-octane FPS fun with added dinosaurs, this title most definitely ticks that box.
Players will seemingly be able to choose from an array of weapons, including the usual line-up of things like shotguns and rifles.
There’s also a bow and arrow for stealthier takedowns, plus some kind of laser beam that causes your enemies to explode.
Fossilfuel 3 also has you taking down human enemies who are responsible for running the evil dinosaur breeding programme.
Your ultimate mission is to eliminate a fellow known as the Commodore.
You can, which sounds like a blast, try and trigger fights between the Commodore’s soldiers and the dinosaurs if you play your cards right.

Devs promise a “massive line-up of unique dinosaurs” including Terror Birds and the Baryonyx.
Fossilfuel 3 is currently only confirmed for PC with no release date set.
Despite it being the franchise’s third entry, this is a standalone game featuring the series’ largest campaign yet as well as a horde mode, sandbox mode, and new game plus, which puts a unique new spin on the main story.
You can now get a feel for what Fossilfuel 3 has to offer thanks to the game’s free Steam demo.
“In this demo, you’ll infiltrate a secret base buried deep within an old Soviet bunker,” the demo’s description reads.
“Navigate tight corridors and darkened chambers as you work to disable the facility’s security system. Once it goes down, the containment fails, and the dinosaurs are unleashed, turning the base into chaos.
“Use the confusion to your advantage and fight your way out before everything inside turns on you.”
That demo should run for around 40 minutes, giving you a decent chance to see whether Fossilfuel 3 is for you, with one player already branding it as “perfect”.
