Steam users can now pick up a free demo for an upcoming peaceful driving game, which is coming soon to the platform.
For a few years now, PC users have been able to play Slow Roads in their browser, but it has never got a release on Steam.
Originally released in 2022, Slow Roads (stylised as s l o w r o a d s, I guess to keep with the zen themes) is a game where you drive along a country road that you can customise in many different ways.
The types of customisations include the time of day, weather, season, and how complicated the route is. You can even adjust it so that you’re driving “off-world” as opposed to on Earth.

It was a fun distraction to play in your web browser, and while it didn’t have a huge amount of content, it’s decent enough to put on while you listen to a podcast or lock in on something else.
Just pop it on, put it on autodrive and watch the calming scenery pass while you focus on whatever it is you need to focus on. Or alternatively, if you need to keep your hands occupied, take over the driving yourself and navigate the calm landscapes on your own accord.

Four years after release, Slow Roads is now confirmed to be coming to Steam, and you can play a free demo of the game now.
This isn’t just a straight-up port of the browser game to Steam, though. It has a load of new features and content compared to what the free version offers, including new locations, road styles, and further vehicle customisation.
It’s also received some new technical upgrades. Better controller support has made it in, as well as the ability to play your local music files as part of the in-game radio. It also appears that the graphics have seen a significant improvement.
Altogether, it should be an excellent little zen driving simulator to check out prior to the release of Grand Theft Auto VI, which releases later this year.
While the Steam version of Slow Roads is a main priority for Topograph Interactive right now, it has said that the free web version will still be available for anyone to access at any time.
The free version will also continue to receive updates, but will “represent a minimal experience of the game.”
Topograph has also laid out future development plans for Slow Roads, teasing content like mountains, oceans, tunnels, and more. A scene editing tool to help you craft your ideal road is also planned, as are more vehicles with improved physics.
Multiplayer has been teased for a future update, allowing players to engage in “shared driving or competitive gameplay”.
You can download the demo for Slow Roads now on Steam by heading to its store page.
