God Of War has been usurped as the most played PlayStation game on Steam by Helldivers 2, which now has more concurrent players.

When a PlayStation game launches on Steam it’s usually quite a big deal for better or for worse. The Last Of Us Part 1’s launch faced an enormous amount of backlash for being a buggy, broken mess, whereas God Of War (2018) quickly became the most played PlayStation release on PC in years. Krato’s big reboot will likely be overtaken by Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 when it eventually launches on PC but for now, it’s the newly released Helldivers 2 that’s claimed the top spot.

Take a look at Helldivers 2, out now for PlayStation 5 and PC

Helldivers 2 is best described as a glorious mixture of Starfield and Gears Of War. Players become elite soldiers called Helldivers in a fast-paced and action-packed third-person-shooter. There are only three objectives: kill space bugs, deliver freedom to every planet in the galaxy and have fun.

It’s basically a Starship Troopers game, and it’s out now for PlayStation and PC consoles, unfortunately Xbox-only players will have to pass on this one, though to be fair Xbox has much bigger problems to deal with right now anyway.

Overall reviews have been overwhelmingly positive and the same can be said for user scores. The game has been such a success that it’s overtaken God Of War (2018) as Steam’s most-played PlayStation game on the platform, and while it is a multiplayer game to be fair it’s still an achievement worth celebrating.

It’s a well deserved victory, and hopefully one that encourages even more potential players to enlist into the Helldivers army, as it’s generally a phenomenal third-person-shooter and great fun to play with friends.

Helldivers 2 is available now for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam.
