Sony PlayStation and Santa Monica Studios have celebrated the 20th anniversary of God of War with a brand new release, and it’s available soon.

We were first introduced to the angry ways of Kratos in 2005 on the PlayStation 2 with God of War, and the series hasn't looked back since.

With its signature brutal, high-octane combat, gripping story and stunning visuals, it’s no wonder that the Santa Monica Studios property continues to go from strength to strength. Now, fans are eagerly awaiting the follow-up to 2022’s God of War Ragnarök.

That being said, as much as we’d love to see a third game in the Norse trilogy, rumours have been making the rounds that the original trilogy could get a modern remaster on PlayStation 5 or, better still, a remake.

During last night’s fantastic State of Play digital event, which finally treated us to the first gameplay trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine, as well as some great PlayStation Plus additions, a new God of War reveal was made.

Fans (including me) hoped that this God of War 20th anniversary reveal would be for the rumoured remasters or remakes. Sadly, that was not the case. However, we still have a few months before 2025 ends, so I’ll have my fingers crossed.

So, what was this God of War 20th anniversary reveal made during the State of Play event? It was a limited edition DualSense controller, inspired by the main man himself, Kratos.

Unlike the previous God of War Ragnarök DualSense controller, which is blue and white, inspired by Norse mythology, this new controller is a light “ash grey” with the signature red Kratos marking.

“No matter which God of War game you’re playing, the shape of his red ink against the grey of his ash-covered skin is one of the most iconic elements of Kratos’ look across both Greek and Norse sagas,” said Isabelle Tomatis, VP of global marketing at SIE, on the PS Blog.

Pre-orders for the God of War 20th Anniversary Limited Edition DualSense controller will go live on 3 October 2025 at 10am local time on PlayStation Direct and select third-party retailers.

God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök are out now on PC, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

If we receive news on the rumoured remasters or remakes, we’ll be sure to update you right away. Hopefully, that news will arrive sooner rather than later, because I have less patience than Kratos.
