Red Dead Redemption 2 players can finally explore Mexico without mods

Adventure is out there, you just need a horse, dedication, and a thirst for exploration

There is a lot of depth to Red Dead Redemption 2, oftentimes thanks to the modding community that diligently works to create new content for us to enjoy. However, there are ways to explore the depths of Rockstar Games’ title without the use of mods.

Having been crowned the seventh best selling game of all time, Red Dead Redemption 2 doesn’t need to surprise us with any more secrets. But it’s going to anyway. Previously, to explore Mexico players needed to use the Nuevo Paraiso - Mexico mod, and while this mod worked like a charm, it was a charm that only a select number of gamers could utilise.

Then everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked… Wait, wrong franchise entirely. Ahem. Everything changed when YouTuber ZacCoxTV discovered a glitch that can take players to Mexico without a mod in sight.

In case your travels don't go well, enjoy the funny moments and hilarious fails of Red Dead Redemption 2

However, to embark on this ride of a lifetime, there are specific rules to follow to make sure Arthur doesn’t perish and end up respawning back on the main map. Firstly, you need to ride to the westernmost area of New Austin and use your horse to travel across the water; apparently, by aiming for a noticeable rock in the near distance, you’ll be transported to Mexico.

You can now, tentatively, explore. Here’s the thing – straying too far whilst you adventure across the Mexico map will result in that respawn situation mentioned earlier. Meaning you’d then have to repeat the process all over again to get back to Mexico.

If you’re successful, you’ll be able to spot a familiar prison from the original game, as well as other sights that emphasise the dedication to detail Rockstar has. We just wish these details could be explored with ease rather than the niggling worry that a respawn is just around the bend.

Maybe more secrets are just waiting for a glitch to bring them to our attention, or maybe we’ll now have to wait until Red Dead Redemption 3 for easier travel options to become available.
