The prospect of an Uncharted remake trilogy unites gamers, but is it really what we need?
Naughty Dog, perhaps best known for The Last of Us series, has another baby under its wings, and that’s Uncharted. To be fair, considering that we’ve not had a mainline entry since 2016’s Uncharted 4: Legacy of Thieves, you’d be forgiven if you thought the studio had abandoned it.
Come to think of it, the fact that we’re now in the 10th year since the last Uncharted game was released (not including Legacy of Thieves and the remasters), it’s quite baffling to think that we’ve been waiting this long.
I understand that Naughty Dog has been busy with The Last of Us Part II, as well as a remaster and remake since that time, not to mention the upcoming Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, but a decade-long (and counting) wait for a new Uncharted should be considered a crime against gaming.

Put it this way, since the launch of the first game in the series, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune on the PlayStation 3 in 2007, as it stands right now, the PlayStation 5 will be the first Sony console not to have a new game in the series. Yet another crime against gaming, in my opinion.
So, naturally, fans would not only love to see Uncharted 5, perhaps starring a certain sibling of husband and wife protagonists, Nathan Drake and Elena Fisher, but they’d also love the original trilogy to get remakes.
God of War Trilogy Is Being Remade, so Why Not Uncharted?
After all, Sony has recently announced remakes of the original God of War trilogy at a recent State of Play event, so why not Uncharted?
“We are waiting for Naughty Dog,” declared Comfortable-Bite1326.
“Naughty Dog needs to do something because they haven’t done anything this whole generation. So many IPs to work with and such a big company. No excuse to not have a Jak and Daxter remake trilogy and an Uncharted remake trilogy,” replied Professional-Coat325.
However, for the most part, much of the thread is united with the feeling that the original Uncharted trilogy does not need a remake, and many are even calling for the PS Vita exclusive, Golden Abyss, to get the remake treatment instead.
Come to think of it, it’s a travesty that 2011’s Uncharted: Golden Abyss, developed by the Days Gone team at Bend Studio, has only ever been released on the long-neglected PS Vita. Worst still, it was disrespected that it was never included in 2015's The Nathan Drake Collection, remasters of the original trilogy.
Look, I would absolutely flip with excitement if Sony and Naughty Dog announced that the original Uncharted trilogy is getting a remake, so too would I with Uncharted 5. That being said, if there was a game in the series that deserves a remake more than most, it's Uncharted: Golden Abyss.
Was Uncharted: Golden Abyss perfect? No. But its prequel story, taking place before the events of Drake’s Fortune, has more than earned its place in the series. Not to mention that it played and looked great for a handheld system.
Will Sony and Naughty Dog ever remake Uncharted: Golden Abyss? Probably not. However, if you ever find a genie in a bottle, perhaps consider making one of your three wishes for there to be the much-deserved remake.
