PlayStation users are seemingly getting PlayStation Stars back, or at least a new version of it.
For quite a while now there’s been no way for PlayStation owners to earn in-store credit without having to just pay for gift cards.
While the rewards weren’t always great, PlayStation Stars was a semi-decent service that would at least let you knock £5, maybe £10 off a purchase based on the points you’d saved up.
Following its discontinuation late last year, we’re yet to get a replacement. But one has strangely materialised on the PlayStation Store without any word from Sony, leading many to believe it’s a leak.
What is PlayStation Wallet Credits?
If you log onto the PlayStation Store right now you might find a listing for something called Wallet Credits.

It’s published by Sony so it seems to be legitimate, and many believe it’s the next iteration of PlayStation’s reward program.
Like I said though, PlayStation itself hasn’t made any mention of it, so it might just be a placeholder or a mistake on the company’s part.

I’d be surprised if it was as though. When the company took away the PlayStation Stars program it did say that a new way to earn points would be released in the future.
Given how long we’ve been waiting it feels like a safe bet to say this is it.

How Will It Work?
There’s no description for Wallet Credits that tells us how this mysterious system might work but I’d wager it’ll just be the most basic form of PlayStation Stars.
Previously PlayStation Stars would reward you points for making purchases as well as completing challenges.
Personally, I didn't find it as effective as Xbox, which gives you more chances to earn points each month but it did the trick.
The name Wallet Credits makes me think this next iteration will do away with challenges and just focus on purchases.
Every purchase will net you a certain amount of points and once you’ve got enough you can trade it for a voucher, or perhaps the points will be used directly when you’re trying to knock some money off something.
It’s a bit boring but it’s not the worst way of doing things, as if you’re buying games regularly chances are you’re earning plenty of points along the way.
At the time of writing it’s all a bit too early to tell, so hopefully PlayStation has an announcement waiting in the wings.
