PlayStation is celebrating the end of an era, with the PlayStation Stars reward program soon shutting down, by giving out one last free digital collectible.

The PlayStation Stars program era has been a contentious one as it has underwhelmed during its short three years; can it even be defined as an era? The Taylor Swift fans would say yes, I reckon.

On the surface, it was a great chance for players to earn some extra money to spend on the PSN store by completing campaigns or simply buying digital releases.

You could also use the points you earned to unlock some pretty cool digital collectibles based on your favourite games too.

Fans loved it, but Sony kept trimming it down until its eventual cancellation.

Somewhat celebrating the three years, PlayStation is giving away one last digital collectible, a diamond trophy shaped like a star.

To snag “the final collectible”, all you need to do is play any PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4 game. It’s pretty simple.

You’ll still have to register your intent to complete the campaign through the PlayStation app, and then you’ll always have a piece of history in your phone that you’ll likely never look at again.

“PlayStation Stars may be ending, but your loyalty and support will forever live in our hearts,” says the campaign description.

It continues, “Thanks for three years of great games, fun challenges, and exciting Digital Collectibles.”

Fans were frustrated to see the scheme come to an end, many of whom used the system to earn themselves little bonuses of credit to buy games.

And so it all comes to an end. No more earning of store credit. No working towards building a digital collectible collection.

As the great Douglas Adams wonderfully said, “So long, and thanks for all the fish.”
