PlayStation Plus' latest addition is pure '90s nostalgia for you and friends

Plenty of new games have landed on PlayStation Plus recently and one is a beat-em-up any ‘90s kid ought to play. The best part is it’ll hardly eat up any of your storage space.

Some excellent beat-em-up titles have been released over the past few years and we have nostalgia to thank for it. Marvel Cosmic Invasion and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge are fantastic examples, as they whisked us back to better days when consoles didn’t cost nearly $1,000.

PlayStation Plus recently secured one such title and it’s one anyone who grew up in the ‘90s can get behind; Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind.

It’s of course based on the popular TV series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, which was based on the Japanese TV series Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger.

As the series transitioned into a worldwide franchise several video games were produced, and in 2024 we got Rita's Rewind by Digital Eclipse.

The game takes players through some of the earliest adventures of the Power Rangers, whose existence hangs in the balance as the evil witch Rita attempts to obliterate them from the timestream.

You’ll fight your way through Angel Grove, face-off against the mysterious, but powerful Green Ranger, and pilot the mighty Megazord in titanic battles against kaiju-sized foes.

Digital Eclipse

It’s honestly a whistlestop tour of everything that made the OG show great, and it’s of course backed by the iconic score.

All five Power Rangers are playable right from the beginning, so you can choose your favourite, and up to six players can take part at once. One successful playthrough unlocks the Green Ranger as another playable character.

Whether you’re playing alone or with five friends, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind is an absolute blast from start to finish. The combat isn’t overly complex as it’s mostly standard button-mashing, but it’s got just enough depth to keep you engaged for its two-hour story.

Which PlayStation Plus users can play Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind?

The game was added to the PlayStation Plus Extra catalogue on July 28, meaning it can be accessed by both Extra and PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers.

However, if you’ve only got PlayStation Plus Essential or cancelled your membership entirely given PlayStation latest career-ending moves, you can grab the full game at a discounted price right now.

It’s currently $17.49/£14.99 as part of one of the latest sales, which concludes on August 12.
